04 Jan Our love story
Single in the city
I’ve always been a relatively private person, choosing what I’d like to share on social media without leaving myself feeling too vulnerable. I’d like to start sharing more personal posts with my readers in 2019, so you can get to know me a little better and not just the brands I love. I thought I would start with the love story of how I met Dr. Bae.
I was single for three years before I met Dyllan. Before we met, I went on a string of tinder dates (that’s a whole blog post on its own), hooked up with a guy I went to school with, and went on a few first dates with some Jewish guys who wanted me to convert from reformed to orthodox, naturally none of those worked out. I was comfortable being single. I could focus on work, gym, lie around the house in my PJ’s, binge-watching series on weekends. Life was great, and I was 100% in control.
He slid into my DM’s
A final year med student slid into my DM’s one morning while I was in the waiting room of my dentists’ office. At the moment that I opened the message, Dr Smile sat down on the couch next to me, peeped over my shoulder and asked ‘Oooh, who’s the guy’. I quickly responded ‘No one, he just messaged me, he’s not for me, he’s still studying, he’s 3 years younger than me, I’m dating with purpose, not for fun’. My dentist quickly responded, ‘Slow down girl, he’s cute, he’s studying medicine, so he must have some sort of brain, go on one date with him, if you don’t like him, you never have to see him again’. I reluctantly replied ‘fine, I’ll give him a chance’.
We started texting, which quickly evolved into hour long chats on the phone, before I knew it, he was the person I wanted to call to tell about my day, vent to and share my successes with. We chatted for about a month before we went on our first date. This gave us a solid foundation, before meeting in person.
How it all started…
When we did eventually meet, it was like we’d known each other for years. I felt so comfortable with him, we chatted for hours, we may have even shared a sneaky little kiss in the parking lot (which was an absolute no, on a first date for me). Despite us having great chemistry I still had my reservations about entering into anything serious with him. His age, the fact that he was still studying, and he wasn’t my usual ‘type’. I carried on going on dates, and for the first time in ages I was confused about what I wanted. I asked family and friends for advice and changed my mind every other day about what I wanted. Eventually I decided to give ‘us’ a shot. He made me feel safe, he listened to me, he wasn’t my usual type, but he made me feel adored.
After a year of dating, sharing pizza’s he bought us to share with his pocket money and spending loads of nights in, cooking and watching movies, he graduated med school, with me by his side. We moved in together, he started his first paying job doing what he loved, and I entered my second year of working for a company I loved being a part of.
We’ve just celebrated our second year’ anniversary together, and I look forward to creating a million new memories with him. Take a chance on love, you never know when it may just pay off. After years of being single and finding myself, I finally found my prince charming he just wasn’t what I was expecting. I was waiting for a prince in a silver armoured suit, a sword and a white horse. Instead, my prince arrived in scrubs, with a stethoscope and a penchant for helping others.
